Getting graphic with the media area

After stepping on a few games and tripping over the chords.  An idea came to me...maybe she needs something to keep it all together.
I went to my favorite thrift store and ask the owner if they had a small dresser, nothing fabulous, or great shape.  It could even be missing knobs and a whole draw.  They brought me in the back and let me choose between 3 that fit the bill.  For 20 bucks I got this one, and was pleasantly surprised to find it was really sturdy and solid wood.
Now to bring in da funk!!!
Painted the outside black and made a simple shelf out of chip board.
Don't worry I covered it in white pleather.
Then we found some fun fabric.  I got about 1/3 yard for each drawer.
Dug out my liquid starch and dunked my fabric and smoothed it out on the drawers.
I tucked it around the inside of each drawer.
Let dry over night and ta-da awesome drawers.
I poke holes in the fabric and put in new silver knobs.
Now all of her games, controllers and other media items are all in the same place.
Boooyah! organized!
The wall behind it?  Oh that is comic book pages.  You've seen it done before with book pages, we brought the color in.  I won a packed of comic books on Ebay for a few dollars and with my trusty masking tape I shingled the wall with them..
She is convinced she has the coolest room in the world :) and I can live with that.

Faking Andy Worhal

So as I posted a few weeks ago, I am in the process of re doing my daughter's room.
We are doing "Geek Chic" with a side of hipster.
While gathering ideas I stumbled upon this classic Andy Worhal print.
She loved it, I did not how ever love the price plus shipping.
So this is faking Andy Worhal.
Cue in Staples and there engineering prints...ta da daaaaaa!

We searched the web and found an adorable picture of a different cow and sent it to Staples.
I did a 2 foot by 3 foot print.  Total cost?  3.59

Ok, now the hard part, kinda, not really.
I used poster paint and a small brush.
The cow green and background aqua.
Then wipe with paper towel.  It's better to do a light coat and then go back over where needed.

Now the ear tag I wanted to pop out a little.  I rummaged in my daughters art supplies and found a copic marker that did the trick.
Then I threw it in a frame I already owned.
Art has been achieved!
Taaa- Daaaaa!

This is a quick sneak peak at her room.

Fall Decoration 101

Ok, maybe not fall decoration as a quick easy sweater pumpkin.
I like quick and easy, as much as I like cheap and this has all three!
Boooyah!!!
Ok, Dollartree carvable pumpkin.  No big thrill just kind of there and orange.
Now the easy and fun part, hit Goodwill or thrift store for very cheap sweater.  I got mine for 1.29 and I kinda like that it has stripes.  I was greatly inspired by this blogger.   Her's are very awesome and classy.
You're only going to use the sleeves for your naked pumpkin.
So you cut out the stump nubbin and keep it or throw it.
Shove your pumpkin in the sleeve of your cheap sweater.
Since I made three there wasn't a lot of excess to shove in the pumpkin which is why I inverted the stump nubbin and shoved it in the hole to make a tight seal.
See?
Ok, so then ya grab some rubber bands to make the new stumps all official.
Wrap them around nice and tight and then fold over or leave them long.
Now you just wind it with twine and glue to hold it.
While I was at the Dollartree I grabbed some of this golden wire.
It makes nice tendrils and all you need is a pencil and wire cutters.
Stick the tendrils in any where.
Then I dug out some leaves left over from last year.
Yeah they are not pumpkin leaves but I still like them.
So give it a try, have some fun and make it your own.
I was considering a pink sweater or multi pattern.
What can I say, I like different :)

Just a few updates

I did it I did it I finally did it!!
I have finished my pillows,...whew, thought I was gonna procrastinate for another year.
I figured it was time to put on my "big girl panties" and "just do it" and any other get off your butt quote can be added
Nothing amazing, or major talent, just plain ol straight stitch and stuff it.

I did do reversible to save me from making more pillows.
Tadaaaaaa  :)

Then after a healthy chat about my blunders I revamped the one wall a bit.
Still kinda working on it but I do know the furniture placement is solid.
I think I just need to adjust the art placement.
Also thinking of putting mats around the letters to beef it up a bit.
I also took the white thing off the stove, it looks better.
And I took the throw off the chair and folded it on the chest.
It's just gonna take some tweaking before I get it right.  I know something isn't right but can't see it.
Ok enough of that.  I am excited that my daughter is allowing me to re-do her room.
We were going through her clothes before school and I suggested I could help her by re-designing her room for better storage and use.  She said yes (I've tried for years) and then I asked her what style she likes or wanted.  After many questions she's decided on "Geek Chic" with a touch of hipster.  This project I know will get done as I'm the one who's going to be doing it.
I immediately jumped on the laptop and started gathering my ideas for the design and inspiration
I already started gathering, found a dresser to revamp and some action figures to turn into knobs.
I am very excited and I did kinda scare her with how fast it came about but I am just a bunch of ideas waiting to explode.

it's only been a year or so

Some things just take a lot of time.
Redoing a living room with a horrible 4 foot by 8 foot monstrosity dominating a good chunk of it is one of them.  That is if you do it yourself and on the cheap.
This is the before, it also was done DIY and on the cheap.
It was here when we bought it.
The tile did not survive actual use as it was thin and cheap.
Every time wood was brought in, more tile died out of shear fear of something being dropped on it.
I had this idea that if I used small tile it would be harder for it to crack.  Not to mention I love the look of glass tile and it seemed easier to clean then the other stuff.  The one thing I don't love about it, is the price.  So after much sleuthing on the net, I found this website called cool tiles and found these tile for less than 3 dollars a square foot.
Needless to say I bought them and brought the size down to 4x6 instead of 4x8.
See?  Starting to look better already...it's shiny :)

So half-way through this project my plans got changed for me.  I had to revamp my column and chunky wood mantle idea.  So I went with a floating shelf with molding.
Ok the shelf is floating and the paint is inching over but there were still things I needed to do.
Like doing something with those chairs.
I got them for about 35 a piece brand new but the color was more purple than beige because they are big fat liars as it stated.
I thickened the black tile to visually support the other stuff.  Now I am thinking on the fly here and probably made a bunch of mistakes.
Do not be fooled, the chairs are only half-way done.  The top is just draped fabric and the mantle was not complete.  But it is soooo much better than the beginning.
Ok now it's the Taaa-Daaa moment!
Almost, would love to make a ruffle cover for the stove but my last attempt at ruffles have left me quivering in the corner

But  faking upholstery is becoming my signature thing.

Even when I mess up and don't order enough fabric to do the job proper like.
This part took me the longest since I had to cut and sew pieces to fit it tight.
I have to say it's the best one yet, and if I even got some real professional training I would be totally awesome,.....just saying.
I'm thinking of doing something with the shelves but not sure what.
Anyone got any ideas?

So this is the big finish, at least for this area.
Before and After
After I clean up my clutter and smooth out a few things I'll take more pics of everything.
Since I finally got out my sewing machine and succeeded in the chairs I may just do those pillows I've been putting off for well, quite the while.

Helloooooooo out there

Yikes!!!  I've been missing in action!!1
Sorry my bad.
I caught a cold and then salmonella and then shingles to top it off.  It was a try two get one free thing.

But before that happened I found these two lamps at Goodwilll for 1.29 each.
I actually bought them for my niece but she didn't want any more lamps.  Soooooo I claimed them.
A little white paint and they are happening already.
As the paint was drying I wandered around my lawn and found a water lily had bloomed.
So I took this amazing picture of it.
So now that the lamps are dry and I know where I want to put them.  I need shades to just bring that bad boy home.
I searched online for days, this was my laying flat and subconscious days.
I finally found them and then had to wait some more.
I found things to amuse me.

Meanwhile my half dead tomato plant that I threw in my file cabinet planter decided to take over the world while I slept.
When I did wander out side I was taken aback and a little terrified.  I've seen "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes"  and I think it started this way.

Then as I went back to the safety of my home my shades finally arrived.
They were perfect!!
I really love them <3 nbsp="nbsp" p="p">
I did a full picture of both of them but the window above the bed has the window fan in it with cardboard and duck tape and I just really didn't want to blow the illusion of harmony.
Even though I just told you about it, hmmmm, ok ignore what I said and look at the picture.

Oh I also broke down and bought some pillows for my couch.
I still have intentions of making some pillows but sometimes my intentions end up as pavement to a hot place.

PS  we did some beach time too :)

So there is my account and hopefully I will not disappear again for awhile.
