Yes, I ripped off this idea

Ok so over at http://sunnyslifeinrehab.blogspot.com/ is this amazing woman who comes up with some awesome ideas.  She is funny and down to earth and I think this is the first time I have ever tried the link thing.  So bear with me as I am now in unknown territory.  At least unknown to me.

So back before Halloween she made a cake stand out of three bowls and a plate.  It was cute and I decided to use the idea to make a Christmas one.
This is the stuff I am using, all found at the dollar store.
The back side, I made a snowman out of ornaments and toothpicks
The hat is scrap paper

I also bought a Styrofoam disc that I covered in fluff and hot glued to bowl.

I popped the plastic candy canes off the garland.

Glued the bowls together.  All objects inside have been glued and secured so they don't move.

This is the backside.  Really hard to take a picture and not have flash jack it up.

This is it complete!  Tada!!

Thank you so much http://sunnyslifeinrehab.blogspot.com/ for your wonderful idea.

I really don't like sewing

I am so out of the box, that I can't stand any kind of structure.  Sewing takes a lot of steps and finessing.  I don't enjoy it, and when I have to sew everyone knows I don't enjoy it.  I told my husband "I hate sewing!!" and in his male mind confusion was born.  Then why he demands did you have me buy you a sewing machine?  He doesn't get it.  Because I still need one.  I need one because I know how to sew and it's cheaper than buying.   So logical in my head, but in his it just rolls around until he shakes it out. Hahahahha

So the reason I tell you all of that is so you know what I am going through.  I am in the midst of planning this retro zombie party for my son's 18th birthday.  We are aiming at 100 teenagers, yes I know I am kinda crazy, so there's much to be done.  We are going to rent the hall downtown and set up there.  Now comes the reason for sewing......the chairs are light blue.  So doesn't go with retro zombie.  So luckily Walmart has this fabric sale thing going on.  5yd bolts for 5 dollars.  They had shiny red stretchy fabric that would go perfectly.  So now I sit and cut and sew simple slipcovers for over 50 chairs.  Bleh, in the midst of all this cutting and sewing I made a break for some bust out creativity.

I have a few cigar boxes lurking around.  That are made of wood.  I think I maybe behind in this trend but I don't care.  It requires no sewing!  I gather up all my left-overs from previous crafts and just had fun.  Kinda had teenage girl in mind when doing this.

And now for the finished product!!!!!
I used duct tape, craft paper, chains, beads, sequins, markers, paint pens, and other stuff that I found.  I thought it would make a good lunch box as well as a purse or a maker holder.  I love it.  Think I might put a new pack of sharpies in it and give it as a gift to one of the many teen girls I know.

PS  to all my sewing friends out there.  I love you and what you do and look on you with awe and wonder.  I just don't have it in me.  :(  but am soooo glad you do.

It's a Lolliclock!!!

I am soooo excited I found these GIANT lollipops at the Dollar Store!!!!!  I love the way lollipops look, the color and the memories of childhood. ~ sigh~ but how to make them last?

Why turn it into a clock of course. :)  After breaking a few here's how I got it to work.  Drill a hole through the plastic and pop.  Make sure the drill bit is big enough for the clock works.  Remove plastic and spray several coats of varnish until well sealed.  Add clock works and viola' instant whimsy!  I painted the boring brass hands to candy colors.

Recycled stuff into Bird Bath

I was going to wait to post this but I'm too excited. We have this place here in town called the ReStore and it is awesome!! It's like used building materials and furniture and light fixtures or parts of all of the above. All of the money they make go to Habitat for Humanity. Which I love and encourage everyone to support them. One reason they are amazing, the other is finding things cheap. With a capital C and B for bargain. So I found this light fixture cover and it was a pretty good size and square and deep enough but not too deep. I thought bird bath depth. I have also found, about a year ago, a surveyor's tripod for around a dollar at a thrift store. Which I have been hanging on to in hopes of using. I had another one but turned it into a floor lamp.
Ok so on to the bird bath,.....grabbed a couple of rubber spacers and nylon bolt and washer to seal the hole in light cover. Painted the tripod in some fun colors using leftover spray paint and left over garage sale stickers.

I have to admit, I was going to leave it the natural wood color but accidently got painted when I was working on the file cabinet planter. Sometimes mistakes are a good thing.

Then just bolted the top to the bottom with nuts and washers. So for about 5 dollars I have a bird bath that is fun and easy to store away for the winter. It is also a great detourant for my cats as I can make it really high.
